Tail Light Housing

With the issues that ive been having with no brake lights, i decided to change the connector or board or whatever the correct term is for them. The bulbs plug into this board.

This is a 1998 Tahoe.

The check engine light has been on for quite a while (year or two) and since i changed the board yesterday the light hasnt been on. Does this sound right or is the local 4-5 mile errands that i run just isnt enough to activate the check engine light. Here is the pic of the corroded plugs.
