4l80e Remote Filter

I am installing an inline remote transmission filter on my HD with the 4L80e and was wondering if anybody knew which of the lines going from the transmission to the cooler was the out line and which was the return line. I need to know so I can know which way to route the hoses through the filter housing. Thanks.

yep most in tank coolers fill from the bottom.. they avoid splashing and air bubbles this way

Thanks for the advise. I think maybe I will pull the upper line on the cooler and crank it just to be sure.

Just finished the remote transmission filter project last weekend and it went smooth. I just spliced into the rubber hose section at the bottom near the radiator and put a bottle over each hose end and cranked it to see which way the fluid was pumping. I mounted the filter on the front of the frame and it fit perfectly under the skid plate. It turned out looking good and leak-free. Glad I did it.

The filter in your pan is a screen type filter with a much higher micron rating than the remote canister type filter. There are microscopic particles that can easily pass through the screen type filter and over time damage transmission parts. My reasoning with the remote filter was that hopefully with it, and routine fluid changes, my transmission will last a lot longer than it would otherwise. It may not, but I guess it gives me peace of mind.

your tranny has a real filter not a screen,allisons have 2 filters ,big one (screen)in pan is for big pieces of poop and the spin on is for valve body,

 

to each his own I guess,every bit helps,take care
