Trans Pan Drop

I know this has prolly been covered to death. I plan on changing my trans fluid/filter/clean pan/install drain plug. So the options for dropping the pan on the 4L60E is to 1. Bend the shift linkage bracket 2. Remove the two impossible torx screws or 3. As my Haynes manual says pry off the shift linkage from where it attaches to the trans shift arm thingy. Which i dont know is possible yet.

Do it right and remove the two torx screws. I'm and old geezer and It takes me all of 5 minutes to get them out. I use a 1/4 ratchet with a torx socket. Unless you just got real big hands, its not a big deal for me.

take to tranny shop and let them service it..

 

Gotta be careful, if you damage any of the solenoids, you might be towing it in then..

Drop by Chevy dealer Purchase 1 replacement torx screw for shifter linkage drop by Bolt and Screw purchasing location (parts store). Purchase 2 Allen Bit Socket Cap Screws and REPLACE them CRUDDY; torx F*#& ups the first go around and never cuss them again. Don't bend it.......

 

Screw driver pry the shift cable off.

 

Also, if your transmission pan has the torx bolt for the drain plug pick up a new one from GM that has the hex......

 

Remember the 4L60e has a regular filtration and a deep filtration system get both if you have never done this and don't know which one.

 

 

 

 

 

Second note some trucks have to have the y pipe dropped or the cross memeber pulled to keep from damaging the shift solenoids. They are located on the back of the pan (towards the back). If you mess one up you will know it. The truck will shift from a gear and then the engine will just rev and no longer pull.

Agreed. I did the same thing, but swapped out the torx bolts for small stainless hex-head machine bolts from Home Depot that I cut down to the right length. It was a PITA to get the Torx bolts out due to corrosion from all the salt they dump on the roads here, but some PB Blaster and a bit of patience should get the job done.
