2 Way Advanced Remote Start

Is it worth the few extra bucks (like $40) for the advanced remote?

I have an '09 with the RPO AP8 and would like to add the remote start. My dealer quoted me $90 to do the flash...and I can get the remotes online for cheaper than he quoted me. Just wondering if the advanced remotes are any better or worse.

Advanced remotes: GM PART # 19213166

Regular remotes: GM PART # 17801236

Thanks!

By advanced remote, I'm assuming you're referring to the remote that offers extended range.

many here have the extended range remotes, some swear by them, some swear at them.

Seems to be really hit and miss.

When you say "2 Way Advanced Remote Start" I assume you're referring to the extended range and remote that provides tire pressure, fuel level, etc. If so, that requires an additional black box and antenna (and extra cost). I had it on my Avalanche and other than the extended range there wasn't anything else of value to me. The remote is too big - almost the size of a small cell phone. If you just add remote start, the "big" remote won't work unless you also add the advanced box.

From what the dealer told me...the 2 way kit comes with everything it needs. If the remote is really big then I don't want it.

The other part number I listed comes with what apperas to be a standard size remote....just with an extra button. http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm

The GM accessory website shows the other remote. http://tinyurl.com/2-way-advanced-remote

Thanks for the info on the size of the remote!

yeah the above people are correct....i had it done as part of my deal for my 2009 gmc sierra sle but there is a couple of parts and yes you need them for it to work.

the remote is pretty big but im not going to spend addtl money for a whole new alarm system and smaller remote when this one was done for free...

I have the advanced remote and what a lot of people forget about this remote. In addition to the range the thing I really wanted out of it, is know that the doors are locked or the truck is running. I had the orignal remote start and you had to be in ear shot or sight to see the doors lock and the lights to blink for the start which really cuts down the distance. Now I can be in the basement of my station and start my truck and KNOW that it is running, plus see how long I have to get out there before it goes off. As for the size just think about where you carry your keys now. In a big coat pocket or maybe cargo pocket really doesn't matter the size. In a tight front pocket ya it can be kind of big.

There was another large thread that had a ton of good information that started right when the two-way remote was released. Unfortunately, I didn't read it before I had mine installed.

After having it for a while, I would have spent the money on a Viper. The remote is just too large. It does display some good information, which was the main reason I bought it, but it is too big. In South Louisiana, I might wear a coat for a total of six weeks out of the year. Other than that, it's too large for a front pocket.

The Viper remotes are not nearly as obtrusive and the range is crazy big compared to the GM. Though it really seems that the range of the GM is dictated completely by the knowledge of the installer. Some have much better than stock range while others have no improvement.

This is shaping up to be my second addition to my new Sierra. Couple of questions i have as I caught wind of the installatio instructions.

The install calls for either a glass mounted antenna (clearly visable) or a panel mounted antenna (clearly visable) right under the back window in the center. I personally don't want to see the antenna but would love to see pics from some of you guys who have this so I know what to expect in terms of size and location.

Next is this a case of needing new electronics box regardless if you have AP3 or AP8, or is the AP8 already equipped with a compatible electronics box but in need of the remote, i'm not completely clear on that.
