Xm Added, Xm Now Theftlocked

Recommended Posts

Just added the OEM xm parts to my truck (07.5 LMM) to get the xm going, XM receiver, antenna, necessary wiring, etc. All is hooked up, but it is telling me the xm feature is theftlocked? I bought the XM receiver (box behind the glove box) used out of another vehicle. Its just the xm band that doesn't work, am/fm is still working.

Anyone know what it takes to get it un-theftlocked? I am guessing some kind of trip to a dealer, but looking for a definitive answer from someone that knows.

Thanks.

That proceture is for older GM Radios and will not help in this situation.

Everything I have ever encounterd indicated that the XM tuners are actually id locked to the VIN throught the BCM of the vehicle to only operate in the vehicle they came from the factory in. The Dealerships have no way to add XM to a vehicle that didn't come from the factory with XM originally, just the GM minds at their best. Finding an after market solution will be your only way to add XM.

XM is not Vin specfic, but I think if the dealer goes into the entertainment menu they can turn it on.

To be more specfic

At the Body screen, select Digital Radio Receiver.

Select Special Functions.

At the Special Functions screen, select DRR Setup.

Not true - XM is sold as a factory accessory and can be "turned on" via the Tech II. The module looks for the VIN programmed in it and locks if it does not match until the dealer goes in and resets it with the new one.

That certainly makes sense, i guess either I got taken or my dealership didn't have a clue with my 07 when I tried to add the XM tuner pulled out of a wrecked tahoe to it. It was "VIN" locked and the dealership said that it wouldn't work in my truck in any way shape or form, and that the only way I could have XM was it the truck came from the factory with it, they didn't even give me the option of adding through the parts department. Sorry for the confusion, just trying to share personal experiences.

Try another dealer and if they say no go remind them about the fact that you can add xm as an accessory item. (check out GMPartsdirect.com to get the specific part number.) okay its 17801150 listing at 225.00 or 163.80 + shipping from them. says you must have RPO code UE1 and NOT have UM7 or U1C

Is there anyone that has very specific instructions I can give to my dealer, they don't believe it can be done.

I'm just outside of detroit

For the Digital Radio Receiver, complete the following procedure with the key in the ON position, use a scan tool in order to properly set up communication:

At the Main Menu screen, select Diagnostics.

At the Vehicle Identification screen, select the following options:

Model Year

Vehicle Line

At the System Selection Menu screen, select Body.

At the Vehicle Identification screen, select the following:

Platform Type

Body Type

At the Body screen, select Digital Radio Receiver.

Select Special Functions.

At the Special Functions screen, select DRR Setup.

The Tech 2 cannot reprogram the XM module. Do not even waste your time at the dealership. The module needs to be cleared of all of its memory. Once the memory is cleared, upon plugging the module back into your vehicle marries it to your VIN number stored in the BCM. No more "XM Lock", "XM Locked", or "XM Theftlocked."

The proper solution is here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-corvett...e-resolved.html

Good luck! :)

I was considering adding a 2009 XM module with NavTraffic to my 07 Yukon Denali with 07 non-NavTraffic XM.

You figure its the same process as you went through or have the newer modules changed so much this type of memory clearing isnt possible anymore?

One thing to note is that from digging around in GM eSI, they state that the XM receivers are not restricted parts... you could order a brand new one from a GM dealer or other parts source and install it without encountering this issue if you were that interested in it.
