My lil brother (19) just bought a Camaro SS! Although six years younger than me, he is quite immature. I can't wait to see how ragged out this car is in 5 years. He went from a 180hp 1996 Volvo to a 2010 Camaro SS with RS2 option. Should I take out a life insurance policy. Funny my 2001 lightning ran a 12.7 in the 1/4 and this Camaro runs a 12.9

Maybe you should have a sit down with him, And try to tell him that it's dangerous at his age to be going 130 mph down the road. Maybe you could talk him into trading it in for a 6 Liter SS truck.

Good for him. when i pay my truck off i going right to the chevy dealer and picking up a black ss. All the camaro's around where i live are 60 plus year old guys that drive 45mph in the 55mph passing lane lol. Atleast when i pass them i get to dream about mine in 4 years.

Ok, just drove the Camaro for the first time only 110 miles on the clock, it is black/black. The interior is not as nice as my truck BUT wow does it go when you nail it! And the brakes are crazy, just tapped the brakes and it like I let out a parachute.

 

I am slightly jealous but the car is just not for me, looks like a teenager designed it, I like my truck. Tires are Perelli run-flats so yes probly expensive.

Really though...with traction control and all the other things GM has popped into the computers on the new vehicles, my 9yo can drive a new Camaro safely.

 

And no difference in doing 130 in a Camaro and a Volvo...just that the Camaro will get there faster. My first car was a Lumina with a Iron duke...110hp. I got a speeding ticket for 128km/h in a 50 zone....I hammered the brakes before I was tagged...so I was well over that. Cars go fast man...some get to fast quicker than others thats all.

 

If you are going to drive fast and be reckless, you can do it in anything...hell a buddy of mine drives the highway at 90MPH in a 60's VW beetle...and by no means are they quick.

OK So much for my thought. I was going to say to make sure to tell him to take it easy for the first few hundred miles but it sounds like you showed him all the wrong stuff right away. Stress that saftey at 100 isnt really safe!

The price of the ticket at 100 isn't cool either...and you wont have to worry about him getting killed in the car if he gets caught...he wont be driving it for a while.

Tell your brother congrats!! That's a good accomplishment for an 19 yr old. I was 19 in Aug 02 when I bought my 02 Camaro SS. It was a 345hp SLP car and it was awesome. Ran 13.2 @ 108 stock and 12.3 @ 117 on bald street tires after the H/C upgrade. Made 420rwhp. Are you saying your Lightning ran 12.7 stock? These new SS's are severly limited by torque management and the heavy 20" wheels. You get it tuned and slap on a set of 17" wheels with a set of Nitto 555's and with a competent driver you have a low 12 sec car.
