The book calls for 265-75-16 tires...are there any issues using 265-70-16 tires? I know they are about an inch shorter, but is there any effect on towing or mileage to consider??

A shorter tire will throw off your speedometer and odometer. It will tell you you are going faster and traveling further than you really are. It should help with towing since the smaller diameter of the tire effectively changes your gear ratio (more revs per distance travelled). As far as mpg, it might help or hurt, it depends. It might help when towing, and might hurt when empty or vice versa.
