Bully Dog Gt Tuner

I'm considering purchasing this unit and would like to know what type of experience others have had with this device prior to purchasing it. I have a friend who has one in a 2006 Chevy 2500 diesel and he loves it. I would really like to hear from someone who's installed it in a 5.3L. Thanks.

First Welcome to the forum.

I looked at the Bullydog for my 07 Suburban,a local dealer brought one in to my brother's shop and they have some of the best feature's for Diesels but not for gas. They have some show off stuff but nothing for actual good performance.

If you want a hand held unit go with a Diablo, or you could get a custom tune from Black Bear. I have researched around and those options would be your best bet. Diablo has more features to actually tune your motor and less useless bells and whistles that Bullydog has for the Gas models.

I wish they (Bullydog) had a better unit for gas trucks because there Diesel ones are pretty decent.

Thanks for the opinions. I looked at the Predator and they seem to offer about the same enhancements that Bully Dog does. I've also read reviews from people that have intsalled each device in their vehicles and the reviews are about the same - each product seems to be liked by their respective users. Do you think there is any possiblity that a particular truck may be more apt to perform better for either brand? No truck is created equal so is there a possibility that my truck my perform just fine on a Bully Dog but may not on a Predator or visa versa? I appreciate the feedback.

Thats not likely the case.

I will say, hands down, nothing offers the flexibility and options of the Predator in a handheld tuner.

Not only is it a great device, we offer great support for it be it here, or on our user forums, feel free to check them out.

Thanks again for the feedback. It looks like I have some additional pondering and research to do prior to making a decision. Once a decision is made and I have a device installed I'll reply back to this post with the outcome and give my honest opinion. Thanks guys.

Well, I've decided not to get a tuner for my '07. After reading as much as I could about different units I then decided I better check into my warranty. It sounds like installing one will void my warranty. Even if I listen to some people that say it won't there is enough negativity worry me. So, I'd rather be safe than sorry and have decided not to pursue the tuner. Thanks everyone for your opinions. This is a great site and I'm glad I joined. I plan on visiting regularly.

You say there is enough negativity....but did you see a single fact?

Did you see anything but some internet worry warts preaching about what GM could do?

I would have to advise you not to short yourself in this departmnet. Do some real searches, not for rumors and heresay, but for facts. Find me one single case of a Predator user who had a warranty issue after using a Predator. I have had the same exact challenge out on the corvette forum for months, and have yet to have anyone find such an issue.

Certainly, we could all agree, should there have ever been such an issue, it would have made it to one of the big forums by now for sure.

We sell 1000s of these tools every year, if this was a concern, we would know about it for sure.

Thanks

Mike,

You make a good point and I can certainly appreciate your opinion. However, I like to operate with a sense of caution. In this case, warranty issues may or may not be a problem. If they are a problem and I install a device and then experience some sort of issue with my truck that involves the use of my warranty and GM decides to fight with me about it, then I could very well have cost myself a pile of money. I guess what I'm saying is it's a chance I don't want to take considering I won't really gain anything by installing a device. Sure my truck would probably have a little more power and may or may not get a couple miles to the gallon better mileage, but really I don't believe it would be the "end all, be all" that each product (none in specific) promote themselves to be.

In the end I'm just happy to be driving the best truck ever made - a Chevy Silverado.

Thanks for your opinions and thanks to the others as well.
