hpracing10 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 The other day I was thawing out my truck in the shop and I was taking care of some rust on the end of the tailpipe with some scotchbrite pads and WD-40. I had never really noticed before, but inside the tailpipe, it was clean. All around in there was just a dull metal color, and a little surface rust. No black soot or carbon deposits at all. Every vehicle I have seen in the past has had nasty black stuff all around inside the tailpipe. I do run some seafoam in my gas every once in a while, about once every 3-4 tanks and I always use Shell gasoline, 89 octane to be exact. Just curious, but would it be OK to assume that since the tailpipe is so clean on the inside, that the engine could also be clean? It doesn't really make any difference I guess because the truck runs great but just something I thought would be interesting to bring up.
dewfpo Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 My '05, 8.1L only has 12,500 miles on it but I've had it for over 5 years and the tailpipe is till clean as a whistle. DEWFPO
