Replace Windshield Seal?

Recommended Posts

i've parked my '05 sierra since i now have a company vehicle, and i have a lot of things i need to do to 'spruce it up'.

the black seal around the windshield has severely faded and shows signs that its about ready to crack. what exactly is this seal called, and what's involved with getting it replaced?

also, does anyone know a good place to price new shocks and rear leaf springs? i haven't checked the dealer yet; they're usually the cheapest but i needed to make sure i'm comparing apples to apples. most of these OEM parts websites don't specifically say if you're looking at the z-71 shocks. i did a lot of towing and wore out the rear end suspension.

i've still got to get that steering shaft knock fixed, and i need new front leather seats. other than that the truck is really flawless, which is why I won't part with it for a new sierra.

Weather strip is the outer piece, the gasket is the piece just inside the weather strip that is more typical to crack.

Do you have glass coverage on your insurance? If so is it full coverage, no-deductible, no-fault claim? If yes, then you can have it repaired through your insurance. (even though its a no-fault claim it still can be considered a claim against you from your insurance company)

If not, I would suggest finding a local glass repair shop that can tear out the old stripping reseal your window and replace the panel, tearing out the old panel and sealer has to be done with a steady hand so that the windshield doesn't accidentally crack out.

If you are interested in replacing it yourself, I have never personally done it, but I would suggest looking it up with a google search I'm sure they make kits out there with thorough instructions....hope this helps

as far as the steering knock.....is the problem the "Intermediate Steering Shaft" if it is you can check get the lube kit for it, or there is a company that makes a replacement steering shaft for about $45, I replaced that in my second Avalanche and never had the steering knock fixed. If you think that may be the problem let me know I can find out the company and part number for you. The company specializes in fixing factory problems on all gm equipment
