Ok so I have a 2006 Silverado 4.8L V8 and it is the LR4 version. My question is how do I determine the horse power on the original engine? In addition what is the original torque?

I have added the Brute Force Intake, a Poweraid Throttle Body spacer, new exhaust and I have the Bully Dog Tripple GT Gas on the way.

What can I expect my top end HP and Torque to top out at?

Thanks for all the help.

I believe that the stock specs for the 2006 4.8L are:

- max horsepower 285hp @ 5200 rpm

- max torque 295 ft-lbs @ 4000 rpm

It'll sound faster? :sigh: It sounds like Black bear might be better than bully dog (JUst from what I've read)

I had a 4.8 liter. With a k&n. it sounded louder doubt it had any other gains other than it looks good.

A throttle body spacer is a joke in modern engines because the fuel injectors aren't anywhere near the throttle body anymore and aren't going to help mix air flow. imho.

Any gains you get will be wide open throttle which don't matter much.

Boost, cam head or lifter work, everything else is a gimmick unless used in conjunction with the main components of the engine.

Lose the throttle body spacer, and get some 4.10 gears if you are not going to exceed 33" tires.

:sigh: Gears are gonna gain you more performance by the seat of your pants per dollar than noise makers.

... your intake, TB spacer, and exhaust are primarily cosmetic stuff

... as mentioned a set of 4.10 gears will get you the most torque increase at your wheels, but it will also cut you gas mileage down for everyday driving.

... personally I'm not a Performance Tune guy, but that will definitely get you the best bang for your buck for hp and torque increase

... one caution as you consider a Performance Tune ... you still have to remember that you have a lowly timid 4L60E 4-sp transmission behind this engine and if you go and remove all Torque Management with the performance tune you then increase your chances of a transmission premature failure ....

Just supercharge it!.....only $500.......(wait forgot one more) 0!

I'm thinking 7 lbs of boost is safer on the transmission than removing TQM.

That qualification (emphasis added) is only true if the OP's primary use for the vehicle is highway mileage (assuming no other mods and a change from a lower numerical value gear ratio such as 3.42 or 3.73). Mileage could actually increase if the OP's primary usage is city mileage.

Trash the throttle body spacer and use it as it was designed: as a doorstop. Return the Bully Dog and get a Black Bear tune. Best $ ever spent on power.

More good info. I did determine that I have the 3.73 gears and as for the Black Bear tune I am AZ so going to have to go with the Bully Dog for now so hope it helps at least a little. If not I can live with the way the truck runs just not quite as much HP/Torque as I would like but oh well.

BB tunes can be done mail order. Not sure of your specific application but it is def. worth checking into.
