Looking at buying a '99 GMC Sierra 4x4 with the 5.0 L engine. Has 117,000 miles, auto. for 7,000.00. What do you think and how do you guys like your Sierra's? Any input about this type of truck pro and con appreciated.

I've got an '06 which is the same body style as yours...except for the fog lights. I love my truck- the end of February marked one year since I bought it.

The price of the Sierra you are looking at seems a little steep, I plugged in some general info on KBB and private party value barely got up over $6,000 for a "good" condition '99 Sierra 4x4, however, I don't know the details of the truck you are looking at.

Personally, I would never buy a vehicle with over 100k on the clock unless it was a Honda Civic or a coupe like a VW Golf but again, that's just me. If the truck is in great condition and it seems like a good deal, I'd say go for it. Regardless of the high mileage, GM trucks are very dependable if maintained properly.

Good luck!

If its a '99 with the 5.0 then its not the same style as your '06,Your '06 is a GMT800,The '99 w/the 5.0 is a GMT400...totally different trucks.

Your 99 is very similar to my 98. I have the 5.7 with 150000 miles. Other than blowing the intake gasket, I havent had any issues with mine in the year that I have owned it. I love my truck!

I was talking about similarities in body style, not engine. I understand they are completely different GMT's.

Nope,Thats what I'm saying...The body styles are totally different,They are two different body styles, theres no similarities....The only thing thats similar is the transmission!

Well now hold on. They both have 4 wheels, driver and passenger side doors, front and rear bumpers.....

True :)

I still think the GMT400 trucks were some of the best looking trucks GM ever produced!! I had three of them, and loved every one of them,Which is why I'm still looking for another '96-'98 RCSB 1500 4x4.

For real? I just did an image search...they're almost identical except for the front fascia?

Yep,Better look again (and I'm not trying to sound like a smartass :) ) The GMT400 trucks from '88-'02,and the GMT800 trucks from '99-'07 are nowhere near the same body-wise,not one part from one will work on the other. And we know for sure the engines are totally different also,The GMT400's used GEN I small-block engines, while GMT800's used GEN III small-block engines.

I AGREE GMT400's LOOK NOTHING like GMT800's......... Rounded fenders, Grill, Lights, etc etc........ Sure maybe if it was camouflaged for testing photo's when they were testing them before they released them.

I actually saw a couple GMT800 "test mules" in early '97 at the dealership,They were "camoed-up"

I'm not trying to contest you, either. I guess google image search was just picking up the GMT800 99's...which is why they look the same as my '06

Yep,Thats the issue....They made both styles (GMT400/GMT800) "side-by-side" for a couple years,I run into this all the time at work with guys who need parts for a '99....They don't know what style they have! A simple check of their VIN tells me right away what they have.

And yes....A '99 GMC GMT800 looks the same as an '06 GMC GMT800.
