hi

just purchased a 2010 silverado 1500 with standard audio system (not Bose)

I have a portable xm radio i want to install in it (audiovox xmxpress)

I will be using an audiovox fm direct adapter kit. I need to know if i need to buy antenna adapters for the fm antenna where the audiovox fm direct kit will plug in.

also do i need to buy an adapter to use the shark fin antenna on the truck's roof with my xmxpress radio.

would like to have all my parts ready and waiting when i pull my dash. don't want to do this twice.

any help is appreciated

Thanks for your input/help.

not sure that link answers my questions though.

these guys were hooking up sirius units to xm equipped trucks.

i am using an xm unit in an xm equipped truck. i am pretty sure sirius uses a different antenna then xm.

what i am wondering is does my xm radio accept the factory/truck antenna,do i just need an extension to reach it?

also they used the aux input on the front of the radio. i don't want to do this.

I plan to use an audiovox fm direct adapter. it is specifically designed to hook up an xm radio through your fm antenna cable. i need to know if my fm radio antenna and the fm direct antenna are the same sizes or do i need to purchase adapters for them too?

thanks for your help anyways.

anyone else out there ever do this and can give ma a little info?

didn't find much help on this so i started making some phone calls.

Everyone i talked to said you cant hook up a portable xm unit to the oem shark fin radio.

the last place on my list to call was TSS radio. They were very knowledgable and knew exactly what i needed for my truck.

here is a list of the parts required for anyone thet is interested.

fm antenna adapter 40-cr30 = $24.00

single input antenna adapter plug xmtosirius-p = $20.00

the guy i spoke with assured me these parts would get me up and running.

will post back after i hook it all up.
