Do you need to take the inner door panels off to install the GM chrome door handles with body colored bezels? (Part # 19154682)

assuming on your 2006 listed... yes

 

it's not difficult, once you do one door it's very simple.

Are those chrome handles just chromed plastic or chromed steel?

 

I think that everybody will agree that the factory door handles are super cheap looking.

from what you describe you are installing a set of factory "Escalade handles" - if they are GM original, the handle is chrome plated plastic

 

you can purchase billet aluminum pieces to replace them, but the factory chrome grabs handle is very durable. I had a set on my '03 Silverado.

 

you might search on this site and others for a how to for "escalade Handle install" for more install info. There is slight differences between the 99-02 and 03-07 trucks, but they are similar.

The chrome handles are a complete POS! I've busted three of them in two years. No frozen doors, just grab to open the door and one side of the handle busted. I guess I'm glad I have an extended warranty as the handles alone would have been $600+ installed. Of course I would have done it myself if I were paying.

 

Why the heck would you make the part that gets grabbed and pulled at least 2-6 times a day out of PLASTIC?????
