I have a pinstripe that came from the dealer, it is painted not the decal type. What is the best way remove this? Will my paint look messed up if I try to remove this?

You may want to do a small test area before getting into the whole project. Use a cleaner wax as anything too harsh may damage your clear coat. Once you get a small area of the pinstripe removed look at it in a bright light at an angle. What you're looking for is if the paint has "raised" underneath the pinstripe. If it has, you don't really want to remove the entire stripe as it will look funky because the color of the pinstripe will be gone but the original pin stripe paint will have raised and will be noticeable. What causes the paint to raise is the type of paint that was used when the did the pin striping. Some lettering paints still have a small bit of lead which raises the under lying material. The only way to get the raised paint to stop lifting is to sand it off down to the metal... Like I said do a small test area and save yourself a big head ache.

100 percent agree.. We have used oven cleaner to remove painted on names off a semi door before. Sounds crazy but might try it but since im sure you won't, I dont blame you I would be extremely apprehensive about doing that to my truck if I hadn't seen it before, I would suggest a good quality fine cut compound. 3m makes great products
