Viper 5901 Alarm

i recently got a viper 5901 on ebay for about 250 seemed good since on viper they were around 500

well i decided why not buy it and put it in myself

then i decided not to b.c it was not for people that have never done an alarm before so i called some shop to see if they could put it in and they were asking for 150 plus the bypass which this guy told me was 125 when i saw it on ebay for less then 30 bucks

so then i decided that i should do it my self

i have a 2006 chevy equiniox lt

and i was wondering what i bypass i would need viper site said that i should get the xpresskit multi can door lockinterface model number xk09

the wire diagram that i got with the alarm was asking for pljx passlock im guessing for remote start

i only really care about remote start and the alarm feature i dont so much care about the windows and the rest of the stuff

well my question is what should i get the one viper says to get or one on my diagram

anyone help?

Go with whatever DEI says. There are many different modules and probably more hen a half doozen will work for you bt you need ot be sure you got the right one. www.xpresskit.com will tell you, and gives you install manuals so you can double check your model is listed. Good luck with the install, make sure to soldier all wires and test everything with a multimeter before tapping into it since a botched rem start install can run into the thousands to repair (seen it first hand, not me, another guy that should have never been hired at the shop I worked at). If you're good with wiring then budget about 1-2 days for it.

+1 there are several that may work but you need the correct one for it to work properly.

Word of caution before you start. Installing this yourself voids the manufacturers warranty and if you get stuck on an issue, forget about calling DEI for help, they will tell you you are SOL. Even our best installers at my shop call DEI from time to time for troubleshooting.

In my opinion I would pay the $275 to have it done. Also, call your local Bestbuy, they sell DEI products and can install this for you. The installation is then guaranteed. If you would have bought the 5901 at an authorized retailer it would have come with a basic install so you would have saved a lot on install labor but since you purchased it on Ebay i am going to guess your install cost will be around what you were quoted by that shop.

If you were installing it into a base Honda Accord, it would be a no brainier, do it yourself. But with the complicated electronics especially in GM vehicles, I would pay for the piece of mind in letting someone who does it everyday to do it for me.

I bought and had the 5901 installed at a local place for 499 plus tax and he threw in the bypass for free. I am not sure which one he used b/c i never asked, but i saw the time it took them to do it and i would not want to install one on my own. When all is installed I am sure your going to love the 5901. It is a great alarm system. I got it from an online retailer. IMO, talk to your BestBuy shop, and have them install it for you, or ask the shop you talked to for the bypass part number/type and order it yourself. I got Bestbuy to install the alarm, and i provided them with the bypass unit they asked me to bring in. I believe I used the 1701G, and if I remember correctly, it is the one they use for most GM vehicles. That module communicates with the GM cars electronics, and eliminates all the other wires having to be tied directly into the vehicle. In the end, you only connect 7 or so wires directly to your car (including ground and power).

His vehicle isn't GM LAN based like the GMT 900s so it's way more then 7 wires and the 1701G probably won't work. With a 1701G and a GMT 900 you only need 3 wires connected to the car (rest are between the bypass and alarm brain) if you have factory rem start.

thanks guys i decided to go with the pljx

all i want is remote start and alarm also kill switch

windows would be nice but do i need anything like another bypass or relay

also do i need a relay for kill switch?

just wondering

i started install today buy since im working in my bark yard i stoped after pluging in the remote start and not started i wired everthing back

then i for i didnt put in the neutralizer switch lol

ill start back up tomorrrow at my auto shop class then i post up how it went

ground out from rem start typically means a status output (ground when starting or running). Adding a kill switch would be pretty redundant since you have passlock (it stops the car from running without the programmed key, hence the need for a bypass module)
