Electronic Throttle

I was just curious how many of us have the electronic throttle instead of drive by wire, i'm not sure if i love or hate it...is it just me or does drive by wire seem alot smoother a little better responsive? i drove and 01 1500 with the wire and it seemed like i had a better grasp on the engine then on my 04 with electronic...

i have no wire running to the opening on my throttle body all i have is a set of electrical wires running into a plug where the wire usually is on earlyier gmt-800s

i'll try to explain this to the best of my pea size truck database on older gmt-800s i noticed almost like a cable like wire to the front of the throttle body where it opens to suck air(to the left of the opening where the air intake attaches) on my 04 i have 2 electronic wires attached to a plug where the cord like wire was on older models...idk maybe i'm nuts

I would call it a mechanical throttle as opposed to electronic. Drive by wire means electronic.

 

Consider a manual window as opposed to electronic, or a carburetor as opposed to fuel injection. Carburetor is a mechanical device that sends fuel, Fuel injection is electronic signals controlling fuel flow.

 

Though an electric motor is a machine usually mechanical refers to an actual action or tool as opposed to electrons moving.

Heck,I don't think they have an "official" name for it...."cable actuated" maybe Thats what it is...a cable,not a wire.

When someone comes in and ask me for one they call it an "accelerator cable"

I'm pretty sure electronic throttles/drive by wire throttles are only on fuel injected engines. In my '69 Camaro I have a throttle cable/rod. I like my Camaro's pedal because I can stomp it and have WOT right away. With the "drive by wire" if you hit the pedal, traction control will most likely kick in and cut the gas for a second(yes it's happened before). However I don't prefer one over the other because the drive by wire is only in the newer, fuel injected engines and I think it's like that for a reason.

Drive by wire sucks... I have an 04 tahoe with the drive by wire,, and it has so much less passing gear response than my "drive by cable" 01 silvy.. My drive by cable idles lower, seems to have better response, yadda yadda..

 

But, everything has gone to it...

 

Plus,, what happens when the throttle actuator goes out???? you sit there..

 

I could rig a cable on the side of the highway if it broke..

I hardly notice any difference between my '03 Silverado and the '98 S-10 it replaced. The only thing I had to get used to is not having the gas pedal get 'taken away' from me when I set the cruise. With the '03, the pedal just springs back when I set the cruise and take my foot away.
