crporte2 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 hey guys.. new here to the forums and looks like there is some great info on here.. I just installed a new headunit along with the gm interface thing and for some reason my front right speaker is no longer working (fully). Sometimes only the tweeter on the pillar works and sometimes that doesn't even work, but the door speaker does not work at all. So i hooked the stock h/u back up and it still behaved like above. So my question: Is the speaker blown or do you think it is a wiring problem somewhere between the h/u and speaker? Thanks in advance yall!
bmp5484 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I had th same problem, but mine came after I put in new speakers. The problem was that the wires were getting pinched when the door would shut. The door would open, the speaker would play fine, go figure
Zembonez Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Going with anything aftermarket that has a little power can blow the cheapo OEM speakers in pretty short order. They aren't known for long life even with the factory head unit. The timing does seem odd though... Did it ever work when you replaced the HU?
crporte2 Posted April 28, 2010 Author Posted April 28, 2010 As far as I know, the door speaker might have worked with the stock h/u and I know the tweeter has been working until now. The tweeter worked right when I hooked everything up, after I put the dash back together it stopped working so I pulled the h/u back out, messed with some connections and the tweeter worked after I put the dash back together the 2nd time. Today got in the truck and nothing from the tweeter...
Zembonez Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 That does suck... just when you were wanting to hear the new one too. I'd sure pull the speaker and test it. It can save you a ton of grief. I'm assuming you just used one of those plug in harnesses for the install?
crporte2 Posted April 28, 2010 Author Posted April 28, 2010 Yeah, the interface came with the harnesses. I guess ill pull the door panel off and try to figure something out. Ill let you know if I come across anything
Zembonez Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Yeah. Sorry to be no help. Those speakers do die. I've lost a couple. I still say the timing is odd though. Let us know.
crporte2 Posted April 29, 2010 Author Posted April 29, 2010 Just replaced the speaker and seems to work fine now!
Zembonez Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Just replaced the speaker and seems to work fine now! COOL! I thought that might be the case. Picked a funny time to die though huh?
