De-badging An Older Truck?

I've been toying with the idea of debading my tailgate this summer because I've done it before on another vehicle and liked it. Only question is my truck is getting older (2001 with 120,000 miles on it). Would there be any paint fade issues? I am guessing the truck has sat outside for most of it's life but I'm not positivie since I'm the 3rd owner.

I would guess that the paint under the emblems is in better condition than the paint that has been exposed to the elements. You will probably be able to see where the emblems were once they are off. If you decide to do it have the paint on the entire truck buffed out and polished. It should help the fade. Plus your truck will look sweet.

I removed the vinyl pinstripe off of my then 5 year old iced blue metallic '88 Silverado and beneath was much darker blue paint. No amount of buffing will change the paint color (until your're down to the primer). The degree of fading depends on the color of the paint, but I wouldn't do it.

I've always wondered how my truck would look without the side molding, but I'm afraid of what the paint will look like and how well they will come off. So I'm leaving mine until a full repaint happens.
