Warranty On Chipping Chrome Wheels

Recommended Posts

So guys i have a 2009 silverado ls with the 17" chrome wheels it has 20,000 km on it. I bought 20" chrome wheels of a 2008 silverado. They are the 5 spoke bordered design dealer installed wheels. I got the wheels cheep because there is some chipping and pitting on the wheels.

So i was getting an oil change and getting the tire pressure monitors installed today. I got a phone call from the parts manager at my dealership. He asked where i got the rims from. I told him I bought them off a guy with a 2008 silverado.

He told me i should talk to the service manger to see if he would cover them under warranty and just play dumb if he asked any questions.

Now i have a good relationship with the dealership because i work for a autoparts store and also sell ax delco parts.

Im just wondering if its worth trying???

or if there is any way they can tell i didnt buy them from them???

They will know by your vin what was on the truck. You may ask about warranty and see what they say. I, myself, would let them know the history. I mean you got your warranty benefit with the low price you paid.

If they are the GM accessory wheels normally I'd say you have a pretty good chance of getting them replaced, however since you bought the truck new from them, they know you didn't buy the wheels from them also,so they "might" question you on where you got them from.

Anytime we sell a new car/truck,and the customer wants accessories,we list all purchased/installed items on an RO for future warranty reference.

My dealership does/did the same thing. Probably common practice if I had to guess.
