2000 Silverado W/ 5.3 @ 118,700 Miles

My 2000 ECSB Silverado 4x4 w/5.3 engine and a 4.10 rear end and LT 265/70R/16 tires has 118,700 miles on it.

 

Should I change the front O2 sensors? They are originals. (so are the rears, but read I don't need to change those)

 

It's running ok, but doesn't seem to accelerate as quickly as it used to, not TOO bad though. MAF and Throttle body are squeaky clean. Max gas mileage is about 15mpg, usually around 13.5 to 14 with that 4.10 rear end and tire combo combined with 10% mandatory ethanol gas.

 

My truck was not made in Canada, and was thinking of going with the Bosch. Any tips?

You can change them out if you want. But all sound ok from what you discribe. The main thing that takes a hit is the MPG when you O2's go bad.

 

I changed mine out on my 02 Silverado at 90k and it didn't make any difference. I went with Bosch as well from Car Quest.

If you OB2 says they are reading correctly and not triggering a CEL what problem are you trying to fix by replacing them with sensors that read the same value? Want your acceleration back, lose some weight and find some non ETOH fuel.

I was under the impression that O2 sensors "get lazy" over time, that's why I was asking.

They start to drop in efficiency over time...but until they drop below a threshold voltage the difference in a new one and a used one is negligible...you may spend the 400 bucks to replace them and gain .25 MPG....MAX

 

Its one of those "If it aint broke dont fix it" things.

 

When you do have top change them....Bosch is a good brand...But I like to replace them with the factory replacement units...AC Delco. They have lasted this long...if you get anything close to the same mileage out of a new set you'll be probably replacing your engine by that time.
