2002 ^l Vortec Timing Chain

At what mileage does GM recommend changing the timing chain in a 2002 Vortec 6L V8?

They don't. I get such a kick out of the boys who buy foreign on the presumption of better reliability and then fork over $800 to change a rubber timing belt every xx miles!

Yup...you replace them when they break....or you hear them being sloppy....That takes a little bit of a trained ear though.

 

These engines are non-interference engines...meaning the valves will not contact the pistons in the event of chain breakage.

I've seen em with 250K on them and still running strong. Keep on driving.

With the advent of roller cams and no distributor, timing chains will last until you rebuild you engine. Somewhere around 350K. My 2000 work truck has over 255K and runs a-ok.
