Damage To My 08

Recommended Posts

Well i wrecked my 08 this past week, luckily i was not at fault. Other than a sore neck and back im fine, the truck did a great job of protecting me. So for those of you who have wrecked your truck i have some questions about how much it is going to cost to fix. The driver side airbag deployed and most of the front clip will need to be replaced. How much is an airbag replacement. I have priced some of the body parts from gmpartsdirect. Just trying to get an idea of the cost before i take it to the body shop and wondering if it will be totaled.

My bedside an rear bumper replacment was about 2500 from the body shop. Dependant on the damage under the sheet metal it could get priceyt real quick. Front ends are harder to judge with all the stuff that is up there. Hope you are doing OK.

Just let the insurance company (or shop) write it up. The Pathways estimating software is a LOT smarter than some guy trying to figure up the parts. Unless the front frame extensions sustained a lot of damage, that truck is not totaled.

Usually, if your airbag deploys in a wreck then the insurance company will file your car as totalled.

Actually no. Our shops replace hundreds of airbags. A vehicle is considered totaled when the cost to repair exceeds a percentage of its value. It has nothing to do with what is damaged. Air bags are expensive to replace and certainly can push an estimate over the limit, but bags being blown won't automatically total it.

Main thing is no one was seriously hurt! What happened?

A mustang pulled out in front of me and I couldn't stop in time, got her in the door. She never looked my way when she pulled out. Her car was pretty bad they took her out on a stretcher but she turned out to be fine just banged up.

Have any of you tried to recoup diminished value on a vehicle after a wreck where you weren't at fault. From talking to a few dealers my truck just lost 20-30% if i trade it in after having it fixed. Thats a big hit to know i now owe more than its worth.

Diminished value claims are mostly just lawyer smoke. If the truck is repaired correctly, it hasn't lost value (except for maybe in the mind of some private buyers). A correctly repaired vehicle won't even be detectable as ever having been damaged when traded in. I buy many many cars for a living and unless the repairs are poor quality (and therefore obvious) the vehicle will just bring whatever it was going to bring regardless.

I'd concentrate on getting it repaired 100% correctly and keep truckin!

I realize that. Didn't mean for it to sound bad, just pointing out what I see here. :uhoh:

i doubt it will be totalled, mine was just rearended and it had frame damage and needed a complete bed. they said it would take 15,000 to total out my truck

I hope they total your truck, with that much damage the truck will never be the same.

If it is repaired correctly by a good shop, he'll never be able to tell a difference.

Mine was over 3 grand... new front bumper, grill, 1 headlight assembly, bumper covers and some labor...

that is a new front clip right there and HOPEFULLY it didn't bend the A-Pillar or the any of the door closing, etc... if it wrecked the A-Pillar and the B-pillar (i think thats right, the one the door latches on???) AND bent the frame = total.

first good sign, front windshield isn't broken, so i doubt it'll get totaled.
