Another Bt Vcim On Ebay

Yes, that IS the newest revision VCIM to fit GMT900 trucks. HOWEVER it should be noted that there is absolutely zero possibility of OnStar activation when using this part number in a pre-2010 vehicle.

What were you testing to see if the On* was working? Were you just calling On* and asking them what they saw as a customer or vehicle info?

Even tho I have a green LED, I just HAVE to know if my VCIM is working properly!

Well yeah, basically if onstar is working properly you should be able to connect to an onstar advisor quickly instead of having to wait 5-10 minutes for the system to connect, they should be able to see the appropriate information about your vehicle and account when you call, and the hands-free calling should give you a valid number for your local area code and be able to make/receive calls.

Just thought I would give back to the forum a little - sorry for resurrecting an old post.

I bought a VCIM 20827036 from the same guy above and can confirm that the Blutetooth works great. But the Onstar has had a red LED for the past few days it has been in the truck so I am pretty sure it is not working which I expected. I have an 09 Silverado. But I have no interest in Onstar so that works for me. Considering this unit cost me $200 including the antenna, it was well worth it.

I just mailed back my Bluestar 2010 module which I bought in the group buy a few months ago after going through several firmware revisions. The product has a lot of potential but still needs work. The one thing I will say the Bluestar could do that that it seems the OEM cant is the integration with MS Voice Command so I could do my voice dialing through the Onstar Mic. I will miss that but oh well.

Can you expand on what you mean by: "the one thing I will say the Bluestar could do that it seems the OEM can't is the integration with MS voice command so I could do my voice dialing through the Onstar mic". I just purchased this VCIM and am in the process of sending back my Bluestar because of echo issues.

Sure. I am running a Windows Mobile Smartphone (Microsoft's OS). I also have their add on for voice dialing call VoiceCommand. So you hit a button on the side and say "Call Joe Smith at Work" and it does voice recognition and dials the number for you. Just about every OS has their own version of this. On my phone, you hit the VC button, it beeps twice, you speak into it, it confirms it understood by saying the name and where, and you say "Yes" to have it dial.

With Bluestar, once the phone is connected, I could do all of this without having to touch the phone. I hit the mute button on the steering wheel (I think that is what it was) and the prompts and confirmations all went through the trucks speakers and mic - really slick!

But as far as I can tell, the OEM does not integrate to that level. I have to use the phones speaker and mic to do the VC. But once I do the car's audio takes over so it isnt a huge deal but still, I will miss that.

I too had the echo problem which was one of the big reasons I returned it.

Not sure why the MS voice feature doesn't pass through; it works great with my iPhone 3GS. I just say "voice" after the system tells me it's "Ready," wait for the beep, and speak through the OnStar mic that passes my command directly to the phone.

Of course, you can also program separate "Nametags" in the OnStar module itself.

Thank V. Guess this is a case of RTFM. I didnt know it was an option because it is not in the main menu. I have to say "Bluetooth" and then "Voice" in the BT menu. Then it does the pass through. Cool.

The Bluestar was nice in that it was instant - you just hit the button and voice dialing on the phone would instantly kick in with no menus to navigate. With the OEM, its a little more work but still very usable.

Good! Glad you found that it will work. For some reason I had forgotten the extra step of having to say "Bluetooth" first, but you're right -- it's not in the "main" menu.

One thing I like about the On* voice dialling with tags is that it doesn't matter which phone is connected thru BT, the tags remain! And 30 tags is pretty good to store the main ones you call most often...
