sounding stupid........anyway, here goes....couple of questions regarding my 2000 Z71 EC.  

1.  Truck came with the upgrade tires (265's I believe) Was the programming to calibrate speedo/odometer done at the factory, at the dealer, or is there a chance it was never done?

2.  Since I bought the truck at the end of December 2000, can I assume that all TSB's known at that time were handled/completed by the dealer? Is that required by law or GM?  

3.  How do I know what TSB's have been completed?  Does GM track these and is there a website or some way of checking?

4.  The rims that came with the truck have 6 wide, rounded spokes with red GMC in the center.  Are these rims considered the Premium rims I see mentioned in promotional material? Are they Aluminum? What is the RPO code for these?

HEY FOLKS!! Welcome to the site.  I think you'll find a lot of info here.  I don't think anyone was intentionally not answering your post.  From what I've noticed Friday through Sunday does not get as much traffic as the rest of the week.  Plus some people may read a message at work and not be able to reply to it while there (like me!).  I could, but were not suppose to.

Anyway,

1)  As far as the tires, I THINK the computer is programmed from the factory.

2)  For TSB's, I think you have to have a problem or complaint that affects what the TSB covers for them to fix it.  Unlike a recall, which they have to fix, a TSB is just a new procedure to fix a know problem.

3)  the dealer should be able to run a check on your VIN and tell you everything that has been done to your truck.

4)  I don't know about the wheels.

Sorry NewbieZ71,  I didn't catch your question until now...  I think Tom has answered it fairly well.    As far as the wheels are concerned they are more than likely the Premium wheels...  GMC offered them in Aluminum and in Chrome plated Aluminum.  The later was an even more expensive option.  It should say on the window sticker what you bought...(I think).  How do you like the truck so far??? I really like mine alot (2000 Silverado).  I have a couple of rattles that are driving me nuts... but the dealer knows whats going on and is committed to fixing them.

I did have a little pinging from my motor when it was new but I never took it above about 1800 rpm's for the first 500-600 miles....   It's gone now because I've stretched her legs quite a bit,  (although I've never seen over 4500 rpm's).  

The moral is to drive it like you would and don't baby it...  the 5.3L really is a high revving motor, and with the Aluminum heads and the cold temps I think I might have caused the pinging by loading up the piston crowns or the valves by babying it.

BTW...  mine was built in June '00 and now has 2300 miles on it.

Thanks guys,  appreciate the response... was just goofing on everyone not upset.. I have learned an incredible amount on these forums in the short time I have owned the truck (end of December).  I have lurked around for quite a while....I love the truck at this point with the excpetion of the mileage of course.  No pings, no rattles, no shudder, no nothing except a good ride!  Actually reading so much concerning others little glitches makes me paranoid!! Every little sound....WHAT WAS THAT????I think the wheels are the premium rims since they came with the upgrade tires on them. I just wasnt sure what they were called.  Still trying to figure out a few of the RPO codes.  My dealer was great on the sale and known locally for good service so I will ask if he can get the TSB info on it.  Been trying to post a picture but not sure of the code to include.  Is there an example or thread concerning posting pix somewhere?  Just want to put it in my signature.  Thanks again.!  Oh, MoutaineerTom - the bomb loadin pix on your site are awesome and you look like you have a lovely family! Enjoy JT - they grow up WAY too quick! (I have 4 in college)

I was the same way at first but I figured if I had a problem, I'll deal with it then.  

I seen the picture of your truck in the test area.  Very nice!  I do believe those are the Premium wheels.  

Near the top of the page there is a link to a  "Help"  page.  Click on it, then near the bottom of that page follow the link to  "View Ikoncode Tags".   You'll find the instuctions for posting a picture in your message  there.  If you want to put a picture in your signature, follow the link to your profile, log in and you can use the same instructions for posting an image in your signature.  You can also put a link to a website like I did.  Keep in mind that any picture you want to show up has to be on a web page somewhere.  PhotoPoint is a good site to store photo's so you can link to them for posting.  There is no charge.   I had to make an account there because Geocities won't allow you to post pics from a personal website anymore, which I think is stupid.

Thanks for the comments.  I do feel like I have a great family.  They DO grow up quick.  I seems like just yesterday that J.T. was born.  Congrats on your 4 in college, I'm sure your proud.  Are they all in college at the same time??  Wow, $$$.  LOL.

Oh yes, all in college at same time, oldest in Veterinary School at VA. Tech., one in Lynchburg VA, another at Univ. of MD and another at community college.  Just have my employer write 6 checks, one to each school, the truck loan and then about ? left over for me and wife.  

I use PhotoPoint for pix.  Found it the other day when a guy on one of these forums was looking for a white/pewter 1500.  Never did get him the pictures but found the site and put some up.  Is the size of the picture a function of its original format or can I down size it with code?  Tell JT that with another 100 lbs and 8" of height he will be able to actully turn the bike on!!!

I think you have to resize the picture itself in some type of paint program.  That's what I did.

The street bike he was on was belonged to a friend of mine.  He took J.T. for a ride around the nieghborhood a few times and he loved it.  The pics of him riding the dirt bike was the first time he had ever rode one by himself.  Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it.  My wife said he rode all over that field and she had to pry him off that thing.  We might get him one, or a 4 wheeler sometime this summer.  But then i'll have to get one too.

Good looking truck NewbieZ71!!!  That white over pewter is definatly a classy combo!!  Your wheels are the premium chrome plated (polished maybe) Aluminum.  They also make them in a cast/machined form too.  Yours are the most expensive ones you can get on the GMC's

      Your tire pressure issue may just be batteries, you can reset them using tge Ing switch (I think) and the owner's  manual. ChatGTP will b e a faster, better help than Google.

      The thinking is that starting out in a higher gear makes it easier to avoid applying excessive torque when pressing the gas pedal. In a modern 4wd truck with 4 low and a limited slip or locking rear end, I would use 4 low and try to crawl up the ramp. Sometimes if they are too slippery, you have to back up to let the boat have some bouyancy, and then accelerate briskly to get some momentum to help you pull the through the slippery parts.

      I have a Retrax pro that I first had on my 2020 chevy and transferred it to my current GMC.  It stays in the garage most of the time, so hard for me to judge it's long term weather resistance.  It still works perfectly, been very durable.  It doesn't see oil patch usage, but it's not a mall queen.  It keeps most things mostly dry (small leaks) and the security of it is enough to slow someone down but not keep them out for long.  I would buy one again, it works for me.

      Thanks to the convenience of Amazon, I was able to get a few things done to the truck today.  I installed Carquest Premium oil and air filters with five quarts of Mobil1 High Mileage 10-30 along with a quart of Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 I already had.  The latch for the flip up center console lid was broken so I replaced it along with the power mirror switch.  I found my push retainer assortment this morning and reattached the plastic under the bumper and it was only held on with a few screws and retainers.  Then I programmed a new remote keyless entry fob so I can lock my dog in the truck when I take her out with me (I've got to keep the air going for her since it's been in the 100s).  Finally, I ordered some LED interior bulbs and replaced the reading lamps.  The front lights are working fine while one of the back lights only works intermittently and the other not at all.   While under the truck, I found the source of at least one of the noises: the sway bar links need replacing.  I ordered a set of Suspension Dudes links with Code Red bushings.  Never heard of them, but they're made in the USA and have decent reviews.  While making yet another Amazon order, I went ahead and added a set of front tow hooks.  I went with red, since that's the color of the sway bar link and bushings and it should look decent enough on a black and chrome truck.  Speaking of which, it doesn't bug me much, but the passenger side mirror has a chrome cap while the driver side doesn't, so eventually I'll make them match one way or another.  Oh, and I ordered a $20 TPMS reset tool.  No idea if it will do anything for my sensors but it was cheap and will work for the Ford Transit Connect as well.     For tradition's sake, I ordered a new oil change wrench.  I kept the Snap-On 9/16"x15mm GM wrench I bought when I was 18 in the 2006 GMC from the time I bought that truck until the truck was lost.  While I was tempted, there's no need to spend $80 for a new SO wrench, or even $50 with shipping for a used one on Ebay.  I just bought a Duratech 15mm extra-long ratcheting wrench to do the job as needed.  It works, and if I like that wrench enough, I'll buy the set.

      The recall is for exactly this issue - those drain holes combined with the limited environmental capability of the tailgate electronics card inside the tailgate were a problem. The “safety issue” was the potential for the tailgate to spontaneously open, but all kinds of tailgate misbehavior can occur from water contamination of that control card.    There is no real fix yet. The initial recall just disabled the tailgate. Later, when parts became available, they would replace bad parts with new parts of the same bad design. My dealer is going nuts because the few times I let them get their hands on my truck, my tailgate is off due to a slide-in camper installation. They really want to cut my tailgate wires, but I won’t give them the chance. I will let them get their dirty hands on it when a real fix (redesign) is available.  My tailgate, which works just fine with sealant plugging the drain holes, will remain safe in a dry storage crate until then.
