so since i just got my truck back after the accident and they gave me some money for the amp that was broke in the crash and the back up camera they cut the wires on i decided to fix the ole girl up some. i rewired the back up camera so i don't have to replace that. i bought a new amp http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=140414175783 and some hawk ceramic pads for the front. a set of inner fender liners for the rear and a set of pro comp es9000 shocks http://4wheelonline.com/Products.aspx?Cate...;ProductId=1345.

hopefully everyting will come in soon since we are taking the truck up to upstate ny for the fourth of july weekend. while i'm up there i'm going to pick up a 5.3 from a police tahoe for my rx-7 project car, a old bell from the top of the house i grew up in (it burned down and was at least 130yrs old when it died) and my chaise lounge. should be a pretty large load for the ole shortbed.

so my questions are as follows

1. how bad is it to replace the shocks. i'm guessing the same as putting my ready lift leveling kit on but taking the spring off with a spring clamp

2. i'm going to take off the rotors and grind them flat. but what should i do about the rear drums. should i try and turn them.

Technically they are not struts. GM calls them Coil-overs I believe. Second reason I know they are shocks is because the extended warranty covers struts but not shocks and won't cover my blown shock. Regarding replacement, I would guess you need a spring compressor like struts but do not need an alignment after like with struts.

I would suggest taking your rotors and drums to a Tuffy/Midas or a parts store like O'Reilly/Auto Zone and have them do what they can to freshen them up. Most around me will do that kind of work.

hawk pads are in and so is the amp (installed it yesterday) waiting on shocks, rotors, rear inner fendersfor the outside and the patch cord for my nav and we'll be ready for the fourth of july trip

got the rotors in, good god they're heavy. i've never held a truck rotor in my hands. i didn't think they weighed that much. now if the shocks show up i can put everything on

I believe the leading edge of the slot should be on the inside when wheel turns forward. Shocks should be relatively easy i don't have anything that new but i just did them on my 2000 sierra and it was a stud on the top and 2 bolts to the control arms. Did the new shocks ship compessed? while the truck is up, remove the old shock (fully extended, tire off), if the shock came compressed, leave it that way install the top nut, place a jack, with a block of wood on it, under the lower ball joint and jack up the control arm to bring it up to the shock. install the lower bolts and cut the shipping band off the shock. If they are coil overs and not compressed skip the jacking step. A fully extended control arm should give you enough room to install the new shock.

The direction of the internal cooling vanes determines which one is which. Here is a link that explains that.
