Climate Control Actuator.

I just had my '04 Silverado at the dealership having an actuator replaced. I'd be driving down the road and the left side would just start blowing hot air and I could not make it stop without killing the motor and restarting. It cost me $250. to have the left side replaced. He said that when he was calibrating the new one he said the one on the right side started acting funny and he had to calibrate three times. He said just be ready to have the right side replaced eventually. It would also cost more because he side the right side was a lot more difficult to get to and I'd probably be looking at another $100. I don't really mind $250. But that would be pretty annoying to have to put out $600. Just to keep the air blowing right. The truck just turned 60,000 miles, and I've only owned it for 3 months. So I still have a lot of payments left...haha

I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to prevent to right side from going out soon? Any certain way I can operate it to were it wouldn't be using the actuator? Would it be better to turn the climate completely off before I turn the key off? Or would it be better to leave my air/vent set the way I like it and leave it alone. These questions may be pointless and extreme...I just hate to put out money on repairs already. I'll still be making payments on it for a while, and then eventually will need tires, and I have a few mods in the back of my mind....trying not to think about that right now. lol

I repaired my Actuator in my 04 Yukon XL. Remove the actuator from the truck, open up the case, behind the main gear you will see two copper fingers ridding on two tracks on the circuit board, clean the tracks and fingers with Q-tip and alcohol. My actuator was covered with grease (on the two tracks) causing the unit to lose its positioning. replace the actuator into the truck and you should be good to go for 60,000 more miles.
