New Lift : Any Advice? Much Appreciated!

Hey guys -

You guys have been real helpful before, I figure I'll ask your opinions again before I cross the point of no return:

I have a Rough Country leveling kit for my 2000 Silvy 1500 w/ 4.8L 5spd. I opted for the 3" lift block in the rear with four shocks as well, plus 285/75 M/Ts. Do you guys have any advice or input for me before or after I put my lift on? Should I be worried about wear and tear (excluding the normal stuff) that you guys have experienced before?

Thanks guys

-M

havent experienced any wear issues associated with the lift itself, its the bigger tires that usually follow the lift that might start to cause problems. my idler and pitman arms have some play in them and need to be replaced, and i had a pinion seal leak and a wheel bearing go. but ive had oversized tires for 70-80 thousand miles. my current setup ive had for 45-50k.

2 or 4wd?

How many miles on it?

If its 4wd... expect the ride to stiffen up quite a bit and make sure you dont increase the ride height more than 2". Also, when it is time for some new steering components, which may not be too far away given the model year, you should consider adding the cognito idler & pitman arm supports. This will help keep your steering in check... the idler and pitman arms are known to be susceptible to increased tie rod angles.

Like everyone else said, watch the idler and pitman arms, also your CV axle angles could bind if not lifted properly. You'll probably lose some "get up and go" because of the resulting gear change(speedometer will be off). But as long as your universal jounts don't get out of specs you're good to go! :jester:

nice. saved to favorites. thanks. so these work with the stock arms, any suggestions on an aftermarket brand? or would the arms from the hd trucks be beefier and fit? i dont want to replace with the same stock parts now that my truck is out of warranty- its time for bigger and better things!

Yup, they're meant for use with the OEM arms.

When you replace yours, just make sure you use some quality replacements like MOOG and those Cognito supports and you'll be good to go.

If you have trouble getting MOOG parts, my #2 brand has always been Spicer. Honestly, i've never been disappointed with a Spicer product either.
