Yukon Denali Navigation Question

Hello all, new to the forum here. Last night my wife, "being a true blonde" put a navigation disk into her 2006 yukon denali. The only problem was, there was already a disk in there. Now, both of the navigation disk are stuck on the disk platter and neither will play, or eject. the screen keeps reading disk error. how can i get these disk out? local GM service department says the entire navigation unit will have to replaced, i really don't see why. Can someone please help me out. thanks

I have a '06 Yukon Denali as well with the Nav.

 

Correct me if I am wrong here...but you are saying that your wife forced the Nav DVD in (over top) the current Nav DVD in the "disk platter". So you have 2 DVD's in a slot that should and can only fit one DVD.

 

Please correct me if I am wrong.

 

If the above is true. I would check on this...but I believe in the back of the Nav unit there is a emer. eject "button". There is a chance that you might need a new Nav Unit...but I never heard of this problem happening.

 

I would see if you could eject is out that way 1st before buying a nav.

I would certainly attempt to disassemble the unit just far enough to get the disks out before purchasing a replacement.

Hi, thanks for the response. I do not know if there is a emergency eject button or not. If there is, where would it be located? Also, you are understanding correct. Both of the navigation disk are on top of eachother in the disk platter. Called another service department and they said they will have to remove the unit, send it to a place in Florida and have them fix it. Price runs anywhere from 3-500 dollars. Really don't want to pay that right now, but we need the navigation unit. I will try to locate the emergency eject button when i get home this evening. If you have any insight on where it might be, please let me know. Thank you.

Best of luck...but I THINK....When I took mine out to add in my iPod connection I saw a emergency button on the back of the unit.

 

you would have to take out the unit. This would take about 30min to an hour dep on how easy your plastic covers come off. Just and FYI on that plastic covers....be very very very nice to them. They can break easy if you rough on them.

 

You might want to take out the unit to see if you are able to take off the "cover" so you can gain access internal comps.

I would definately try to get it out myself before getting a new one as well. At this point, what is the worst that can happen right?? Hopefully you get lucky and there is a manual release at the back as GMC D 2006 mentioned, but short of that, I would start taking screws out to see what you can do. Also, I would go out to the truck and remove any and all cds or anything else that you wife might be able to stick in there in the future!!!lol
