I am looking to buy a 92 1500 with a 4.3 and a stick. I was wondering how much work I am it would be to put a bigger motor in it. I would like to run the same trans. I am looking at a 5.7 or a 6.0. Thanks for all the help.

if you find a 5.7 TBI from 1992... then the swap should be relatively easy

bringing in a newer generation of motor like a 5.7L Vortec (96-99) or a 6L ... will introduce a lot of headaches with hacking wiring harnesses, and require a newer powertrain control module ...

Why not look for the right truck to start with? What are you trying to accomplish? There should be plenty of 1992 GM trucks available to pick from.

I am looking to go carbed, not tbi. The reason, for this truck, is I may be able to pick it up cheap when the guy decides to sell it. Thanks

I always go to the bottom and do a fast reply... So you still need to consider the cost of the motor into your purchase price, plus all the little things needed to bypass the TBI sensors for your computer, as well as a new PCM for the 5.xL. I am 90% sure the 6.0 LS based motor will not bolt to your bellhousing, but then I left 10% margin of error in there...

Yep... Do you plan on getting a motor from a donor truck? If so, then you can grab the computer as well and you will be set.
