trading in my 08 for a 10, truck is blk and dealer wants to sell me a 400 dollar clear coat to protect the paint?????? is this a rip off??

oh, and anyone know what the black premium cloth seats are like for dog hair? I heard the black was really bad for some reason, though I can;t see why it would be any different than the titanium.

Its a rip off. Don't pay the dealer anything for extra's. If you really want to do something like this go look around at other shops like Auto Armor and you will find the dealer is charging you about 2x the going price and you have no idea what he is going to apply. Might be just a wax job by some 18 yo working in his clean up shop.

Any service like this the dealer is pushing is grossly over priced....................

It's just a cash cow for the dealer and really does little for you. Did they also offer to undercoat and put the super protectant in the interior? My most recent car buy and the gal handling the final paperwork did all this. She pushed the 3M clear protectant sheeting to be placed all over the front and kick panels, etc. Quite pricey, I just said no!

I work at a detail shop that is owned by a dealership, and they sell a $600 package that comes over to our shop, and consists of a quick wash, then appy a wax (don't get me wrong it's a real good wax, but not worth the money), and the interior we a apply a protector to the leather seats and other plastic (I don't see much difference from the product we use normally), and then after a quick shopvac we spray the carpets, and cloth seats with the protectant, which is like scotch guard, I don't really know how good that works.

So IMO it's just an expensive false sense of protection for people who don't wax or anything else. Just keep it clean and waxed, and spend that money elsewhere

Oh, you mean I'll have to wax? hahaa! I once had a truck Perma-shined. Today, this truck looks dull . . so I guess it didn't work all that well. It was supposed to last the life of the truck. I think I will call her on Monday and pass on it . ..

No, they haven't tried to sell me that YET! Just the rust module (which I had in the 08 anyway) and now this clear coat thing. Seriously. If the paint is going to fall apart without it, why are you selling them with crappy paint??? Geez.

I don't think its crappy paint. The UV and oxidation is what kills paint. Wax only seal the paints and protects it which I am sure you know. A coat of wax once or twice a year will go along way. Although I try and wax mine minimum once a month.

The original paint job already has a clear coat on it. What are they talking about anyway?
