"09" Gmc Sierra, Temp. Display Locked Up

The exterior temperature display in my "09" Sierra Denali seems to have locked up. It is reading 71 degrees no matter what the outside temp is. It also seems to be efecting the AC. It's under warrenty but taking it in is a bit inconvenient. Anyone know if disconnecting the battery for a few minute s will clear the problem. Also by doing so would I loose some of my programed settings. memory seats, programible garrage door remote. nav system, etc

The temp sensor seems like it's stuck at a certain resistance, if you do itself you'll have to buy a temp sensor and install it in front of the radiator. But if it's in warranty, why don't you let the dealership do its job? :happysad: It could also be a faulty module, but doubt it. Unhooking the battery should always be the first thing you do since a computer module could just be froze up. Unhook a terminal and touch the two vehicle terminals together for about 15 seconds, that should discharge all capacitors in the system and reset everything.

My fuzzy memory wants to think that touching the terminals is only for OBD1 vehicles, that would be 1995 and earlier.

Yeah I worded that wrong, touching the terminals together will not reset the ECM, which is not the problem with the temp. display anyway. But still, if the temp. module is froze up it will still reset it. Sorry bout' the choice of words. Thinking more about my knowledge of electronics, touching the terminals together might not do anything because of diodes not letting the capacitor current flow but one way. But still unhook the battery for at least 5min.
