2010 Sierra Right Turn Signal And Brake Light

Hey Guys,

So two days ago I towed my first trailer with the new truck (2010 Ext Cab 1500 All Terrain) and I noticed that the trailer's right turn signal and right brake light would not come on. Also when i put on the hazard lights the right one wouldn't blink either. The trailer was a Uhaul tailer so I inspected the right light and it looked old/burnt out so I didn't think anything of it. Yesterday I was planning on going fishing so I hooked up my boat (18' open bow) and I had the same issue.

Now the truck is obviously under warranty but if this is a minor fix could anyone give me any ideas of what it can be?

I swapped trailer adapters with my father (owns a 2010 as well) and it worked on his fine and I checked the fuses in the truck and they all seemed to be in proper order. Having said this about the fuses i'm not 100% sure if a) there is a separate trailer fuse b) what the code is on the fuse panel listing.

When the truck isn't hooked up all lights work fine.

Also another observation, when the trailer is hooked up and i use the right signal, the light flashes on the dash but it doesn't make the "signal noise" right away...id say after 2-4 flashes the "signal noise" starts not sure if this is any help. When i use the left the light flashes along with the noise and there are no issues.

Thanks in advance guys!!

Ground issue going to the trailer plug? We had a cattle trailer that the ground broke on the trailer side. It did BIZZARE things with the blinkers and lights. Would work when the ball made a good contact. If the ball was rusty, then all bets were off.

I'd just check if you're getting all the signal outputs, grounds, etc on the truck side plug.

Probably need to change the blinker fluid out and put some blinkotech 24 bpm(blinks per minute) fluid in it. Try some synthetic, it'll make your bulbs last longer and use less power. :happysad: The brakes are pretty self explanatory, put some brake fluid in it.

I agree with Wires. First check and make sure you are getting a signal out of the plug on the back of the truck. If so, check the wiring on the trailer, if not, check and make sure none of the wires have been ripped out of the back of the plug and make sure everything is connected in the box that is on the frame crossmember right by the plug too.

Same problem with a trailer.Trailer had shorted wires. Under the hood is a fuse box. There are separate fuses for left and right side for trailers. Mine were bad. Also a fuse for the running lights. Look in the owners manual and they'll be numbered. The left and right sides are 10's..running lights are 15's...no extras or spares
