Heater A/c Fan Removal 1990 Suburban

Trying to figure out the easiest way to remove and replace the heater A/C fan in my 1990 Suburban (should be same as 1987 or older C-10 trucks). The plastic shroud that covers the A/C evaporator extends to cover the fan. Other Chevy trucks that I have had of that era had the fan totally open and accessible.

To make matters worse, the shroud extends under the diesel fuel filter assembly as well.

Is there a trick to easily remove this shroud?

I'm considering just cutting to access the fan, and either leaving it off, or somehow reattaching it.
