Fifth wheel hitch in Short Bed??

Has anyone had clearance problems while turning with a fifth wheel hitch in a short bed?  How about a slider style 5th wheel hitch?

We are looking to buy a fifth wheel hitch RV travel trailer.

I was told by an RV dealer that it is not a problem...  They would put an extension on the trailer so that the pin would stick out beyond the front of the trailer.

My sister and her husband have a CC SB F-350. They had to get the slide style hitch installed on their truck. I don't see why Shaners method wouldn't work either. An extension really makes sense to me. Any RV dealer should be able to set you up nicely. Everything I have seen from an RV dealer is very good work.

My Silverado is a crew cab/short box.  My 5er has an extended pinbox, and I use a RBW L'il Rocker hitch (not a slider).  I can back up at a pretty sharp angle with no problems (probably close to a 75º angle), just watch your clearance.  I have a set of big towing mirrors, so this is quite easy to do.  However, with all that being said, when I buy my next 5er, I'm going to go ahead and trade the RBW in on a slider hitch.  If you get the manually slide-able hitch, it's not too much more than a standard.  If you get one of the automatic slider's, you're talking well over a grand, IIRC.

I have a 2002 GMC 2500hd, extended cab, short bed and we pull a 30' fifth wheel. I had a Husky 16k Rocker/Slider hitch installed and it works great. I have never had a problem in tight turns. One reason is the front of the fifth wheel is curved back to the front corners, which gives a better turning radias. If I were to really get in a bind, I can slide the hitch 9" to the rear.  Good luck on whatever you choose.
