4 Wheel Drive Question

When I put my 4x4 into 4 wheel drive I notice that when turning if feels like brakes are being applied. I have to give it gas to go.. It's not smooth either as I'm picking up a little bit of chatter when turning at slow speeds. Clues?

 

NOTE: I had breaks replaced about 1 year ago and noticed then something was a bit different, I chalked it up to the new rotors and slight friction on the brake pads which would wear-in. In 2 wheel drive everything appears ok.

DONT use 4x4 on dry pavement.

 

you're feeling your front axle fighting your rear axle. when turning, your front wheels spin at a different speed than the rear.... which means your driveshafts either have to spin at a different RPM (which they cant) or your tires need to slip.

Never thought of that, traction on all fours means same speed... Thanks!

No problem man. This question pops up about once a month.

 

At least now you know nothing's wrong... if anything, it means your 4x4 is working properly !
