ChevyUNC14 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Well just bought my truck but looking to upgrade the audio to a aftermarket double din dvd unit maybe navi as well but just have a couple questions. I currently have a non bose stereo and my question is if I upgrade and buy the PAC harness I can keep everything butmy XM radio correct, still keep Onstar since it is free for the first year. I was leaning towards a Kenwood 6160 or something along those lines

You'll need to make sure the new headunit has it.
ChevyUNC14 Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 I dont currently have blue tooth but new radio may. But Onstar will stay intact with that harness correct?
2010SSRS Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I dont currently have blue tooth but new radio may. But Onstar will stay intact with that harness correct? if you have Steering Wheel controls, you have Bluetooth if it 2009 or 2010. as far as the OnStar, you need the GM harness from Crutchfield and that will not only keep you OnStar working but it will keep your door chimes and blinker sound working as well. if you have Steering Wheel controls, there's a harness to keep those working too! i'm looking at the Kenwood DNX9960 or the DNX6960.......can't decide on the voice control!
2009SierraZ71 Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 It seems like the wiring harnesses (like the PAC OEM harness) used to replace the head unit has a separate box that plays the chimes and blinkers. Is that accurate? Does it sound the same as factory or does it play it's own sounds for the chimes?
coleman62 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 I am in the process of installing a Kenwood DNX5160. Everything I have read says that yes the harness will still allow for OnStar/emergency signals. If you use the metra harness for this, though, you will lose turn signal sounds without a separate relay. XM will not because Kenwood no longer supports XM. Steering wheel controls will still work with a separate unit.
emerson1 Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-I7FuHIFBZyj/c...sp?I=120OSLAN01 If you are going through crutchfield when you add the HU to your cart it should automatically ask your if you want to add this. It will be $64.99 since you are getting a HU over $100. It should also add something to retain your turn signal sound. And I know there is a something to retain your XM. I would call crutchfield, they are pretty good at knowing exactly what you need.
Dale_K Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I have a Kenwood radio in my 2010 work truck and had to use the module to keep the chimes and turn signal sounds working. They don't sound exactly the same as stock. The sound doesn't come from the speakers anymore - it comes from under the dash where the module is. It all works OK.
coleman62 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I forgot to mention you can keep the stock xm with an older model such as the 6140(2009 model). As of the 2010 models which is the --60's XM is no longer compatible for control through the head unit. You can purchase a seperate tuner and put it in through the AUX but if your like me and want everything clean and to go through the head unit, just lose the XM.

I watched all the videos on youtube about it, looks really clean. I do however want to retain my XM, it's all I listen to in addition to my ipod. I'll put out my intentions and someone cna answer if this (or any unit) will meet my criteria. 1 - I want to hook up a huge hard drive via USB or any other connection and have all the contents accessible through the touch screen. The HD will contain approxiamtely 70 GB music, and approximately 600 GB of movies and tv shows ( i do A LOT of road trips) 2. Retain XM functionality and have it accessible through the touch screen. 3. Retain steering wheel controls and bluetooth 4. Have NAV available, and if possible, have the funcionality to use that NAV while driving, this may require additional products which I am willing to install, just don't know what they are Suggestions?
abnjeffy Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I have since learned that the 9960 is easily bypassed by grounding the parking brake wire. There is also an additional piece of equipment for XM Sat Radio, and retaining steering wheel controls. so I guess the only question remaining is question 1, any help?
djerome Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I just upgraded my 07 non bose avalanche to a pioneer avh-3200dvd. I used the GMOS-LAN-01 harness and kept my onstar/chimes and signals (you need a relay for the signals) I also used the Axxess ASWC to keep my steering wheel controls, it worked awsome auto detected both my new head unit and the truck no programming needed. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120ASWC/Axxes...WC.html?tp=3405
