Shock Install

I need new shocks front and rear on my 2001 2500HD, I read a lot of good things about the Bilsteins but also the KYBs.

 

Anyone have seat of the pants recommendations for this truck? And it looks fairly easy to put new shocks on, is it as simple as it looks or are there any tricks I shopuld know before I tackle this job?

I have sears put monroe sensa trac's on my truck and I love them. The trucks rides great. And sears put them on for free. Just an idea for ya! Good luck.

ditto on the sensa tracs i used to sell them and you cant beat the warrenty and the ride i have to put them on my 01 2500hd also .

I've had KYBs on a couple of Chevy trucks. Loved them!

 

Installation is a breeze.

I installed the sensa tracs too and love them. The installation is actually easier than it looks.

I have yet never had to replace shocks on any of my 3/4 ton trucks in the past. I did however had to replace shocks on non 3/4 ton truck a few times. I believe they were the sensi track shocks which had a life time warranty with them. Went through 3 sets in the rear within a 4 year time span. Loved the ride quality of them, made the truck feel stiffer and higher up. I'm just kinda dumb founded why I never had any blown shocks at all in any of my 3/4 ton trucks considering the abuse they go through with payloads and pulling.

Ran Bilstein HD's after running the red Tenneco's and Monroe Reflexes. My recommendation is the Bilsteins. They kick ass. Installation is a breeze. No jacking or Tbar unloading is required. Just go out there climb up underneath and its 2 bolts per shock. Took me probbaly 30 minutes for all of them with the wife helping. The fronts just require you to get a wrench setup since its a long stud that comes up into the engine compartment. Probably 20 of those 30 minutes were spent on the front.

Cool, thanks for the input! I just ordered a full set of Bilstein HD's from shockwarehouse.com. Sears is offereing free installation on the Monroes but they're also $80 more expensive than buying them on-line.

After reading about frequent replacement on the Monroes and feeling that the Bilsteins are better for my needs I pulled the trigger. Hopefully they'll be here by Saturday so I can get them on this weekend.
