Autoride Levels Initially But Won't Keep Rear End Up

I have a 2004 Yukon XL Denali with 100K miles and just started having an autoride problem when pulling my boat. When I hitch the boat (~2500 lbs.) the compressor kicks in and it levels nicely. Then after driving 15 - 20 miles, it has sunk down several inches. The compressor does not kick in again until I shut off the engine and start it again. Then it pumps it right back up.

I've taken it to two dealers and they say there are no codes and the compressor responds to all commands. They are stumped. There is no service message.

Could it be a leak somewhere? But then why doesn't it pump the rear end back up?

But driving with rear dragging is the stance many people go for. You should be happy that you're riding with popular suspension options.

Thanks. If you mean have the dealer get the codes, they've already done that twice and it cost me $75. They found no codes and the compressor responded to commands correctly.

Or did I misunderstand your suggestion?

Maybe an issue with the level indicators on the rear suspension? You might want to try a search on the Denali truck forums. All those trucks have autoride.

OK, I took it to another dealer and they said the rear shocks are definitely leaking. They also said the compressor has a timeout on it and that may explain why after a period of time it no longer pumps up the shocks until I cycle the ignition.

Has anyone else heard of this timeout? Is it a thermal protection for the compressor?
