Right Door Lock Arm Loose

99 Sierra...After replacing the right door handle with a new one the rod that attaches thru the hole for the lock does not stay in place. So now when I shut the door it just comes out of the hole and won't work with the key. Is there something that is supposed to hold it in place? It is a bent rod and there is nothing on the end of it that would indicate there was any thing in the 1st place. Thanks for any help! Matt

They usually have a plastic thingy to keep it in place. Why did you change it?

The old one came apart and was no longer fastened to the door. The bolts that hold it in place are molded into the plastic and with some rusting they swell the plastic and come loose. I'm thinking I can use a cable tie to hold that rod to another item in there loosely so it can still move.

Note the clip (#1) in the pic.

Not sure what year this is but yours may be similar

Not the same, thanks though. I think I solved the dilemma with a couple cable ties.

Check the link for replacement clips:

Most big box parts stores sell them also.

that's what he needs, the one labled: GM Door Lock Rod Clip 3/16" (5mm) Rod Size

the new handle should have had the clip on it already, if not you could reuse the one from the old handle if you carefully remove it.
