Overspending On Door Speakers?

Hey audio experts! I just got a new 2010 sierra ext cab. Non bose. On my last 2 trucks I had Diamond Audio component door speakers. I dont recall the exact model but they were like $200-300 a set. Ran by a Phoenix gold 400 watt amp. I see alot of recomendations on here for speakers in the $75-150 range. Was I just wasting money on the Diamonds?

I will use stock head unit .I plan on installing the old amp and new front door and pillar components. with a new amp and some sort of sub box. Ill Probably try and use my 2 old 10 inch image dynamics dual voice coil subs. They were shallow enough for my 08 tundra under the seat box so well see?.And sounded Killer good BASS ,The kind that would PISS off my neighbors and make ppl roll up there windows in trafic. Ive been doing this since 1987 so I figure why stop.

So I guess my ? is Are the polk DB6501 for $119 as good as my 9 year old Diamond audios were ? or is spending more than $200 on door speakers a waste?

I Dont want to spend more than $1000 on my new system. My last all new set up in 2001 cost like $3600 ( I put thatsystem into the tundra) I got 9 years out of those speakers and 1 amp. The 600 watt phoenix gold sub amp lost the right side output.(fix or replace)?

Any imput would be appreciatedpost-14159-1281491971_thumb.jpg

I wouldn't spent too awful much on speakers, as the human ear can only hear with so much clarity no matter how good the speakers are. Now subs are different the better quality the harder hitting and the better it makes you feel.

A crappy install can make 1000 dollar speakers sound worse than stock paper cone speakers. (Been there done that several times)

An awesome install can make 50 dollar speakers sound amazing.

So for what its worth, if you are installing in the stock location...you might as well burn your money if you spend too much $$. However more $$ will get you speakers that can play louder longer before blowing.

I had the dynamat in my 01 sierra. lots of it. Thats probably why they sounded better there than in the tundra. I think Ill do the dynamat in my neww truck just like my 01. The back wall of the cab and the front doors.

Keep the diamonds they are still bad ass speakers assuming moisture didnt get to them. Im 33 and have loved car audio sense I was 15 so unlike these other guys, I would say spend $1,000 on a set of components if you have the cash lol Also Image Dnamics makes pretty good component sets to match your subs if you choose to buy new ones.

Honestly though if you really want good sound you need kick panels ;) the stock locations are off axis and have the tweeter and mid too far apart from each other.
