Going To The Strip, Guesses On Et

Well, as the title states, I am planning on heading down to Edgewater (Cincinnati) Test and Tune this Friday night with some of my friends and was curious what everyone figured I could expect for 1/4 mile times and speeds. I am going to make a guess at 15.8@91 mph.

Let me know what you think and also if anyone has any suggested setup tips.

Weight reduction. If you think your truck will spin the tires, put it in 4wdhi. Warming up street tires or a/t is a waste of rubber.

Well I went out today and took all the tools out of the box, receiver out of the hitch, pulled the spare, pulled the bed mat (had that in addition to the line-x since I got it as a gift before the line-x), and was actually thinking of pulling the toolbox out but figured against it since it would be a hassle to get in and out by myself. I may end up pulling the tailgate off too. Anyway, doing some quick first to second runs on the street it looks like it spins for maybe 3 feet on launch and then there is some minor slip all the way through first based on the ever so slight tire marks left. Then it chirps second and no spin from there. Think 4wd would be worth it or would it benefit more at the top from leaving it in 2wd? This is with the rears set at 36 psi. I was thinking maybe dropping them to 28 or so for the track. Opinions? Oh, and I will definitely be driving right around the water pit, no rubber wasting burnouts for me.

PS I might add that my truck has 17 inch wheels with the stock goodyear wranglers.

If you have 4WD Auto then just put it in that and leave it in, you won't be doing any damage.

Not really worried about the damage but am curious if it would just make for more parasitic loss on the top end than the benefits on the low end. I guess I'lll just run one both ways and see if it makes a difference. No one wants to guess the ET?

Well, I believe you guessed it pretty damn close. Somewhere around 16 seconds, I'd imagine. I guess we'll see Friday, won't we?

Sure will... :dunno: I have several friends going with me with their mostly stock cars. Looking forward to some sloooow racing action. Fastest one in the group has a 2008 Cobalt SS TC with the GMS1 upgrade, slowest has a V6 Charger. Should be tons of fun, the way racing should be.

Exactly, it's not about how fast you are, but how much fun you have while doing it. Although, some people think faster=funner.

Well guys, I just have to say that last night was a complete blast. It was my first time on a drag strip, but the test and tune went really well. I made 7 or 8 passes for the night starting at around 96 degrees and the last pass of the night was at around 90. Anyway, my best pass was a little later on when I managed a 15.938 @ 87.1 mph. 60 foot times were around 2.4-2.6 second depending on the launch technique. It wasn't quite as quick as I expected, but the only comparable truck there was a Ford 4X4 Crew cab (don't know what engine) that ran a 17.6 at maybe 78 mph. I only won two races and both were against a guy in a V-6 Dodge Charger. I did do some testing though as I made my rounds and here is what I found out:

1)1/4 mile times were better with traction control and stabilitrak off. This made 0.1 sec or so difference.

2)1/4 mile times were also better in 2wd vs being in 4wd Auto or 4wd Hi. This made ~0.05 sec difference.

3)My truck will bark the tires going into 3rd under WOT and will go sideways at this shift if there happens to be transmission fluid on the track from the Ford in front of me.

4)If these trucks will ever be "fast" they definitely need a different (higher stall) converter.

I'll post up the time slips if anyone really wants to see them and maybe even a video. Have a good one!

What do I win for my 16 second guess? :D I can't believe I was right, just kidding, I knew I'd be right.

It was a pretty good guess if you ask me. The racing was a blast even though I lost nearly every race. Looking forward to having some more modifications and then going back to see how it does.
