New To The 6.0 Max

Just a couple questions. I just bought a 2006 Sierra 1500 with the max engine. Can anyone tell me a little about it. Does it shut down to four cylinders on the highway? It does really good on gas when on the road, but not so good in the city. Have any tips on improving gas mileage?

Your 06 has the LQ9 motor and does not have AFM. You do however have 345hp and 380tq. Keep your tire pressure good and drive easy intown. If you keep the truck below 65 on the highway, you'll get upper of 18-19mpg on the highway.

I have the same truck, love it, decent highway mileage, but around the city, well they suck. Doesn't shut down to 4-cyclinders, 8 cyclinders a-banging fulltime

I've added a few bolt on's to mine, while there power increase was noticable, i found fuel mileage very noticable, intake, throttle body spacer(which i've been told was a waste for the 6.0, full dual exhaust, and a plug and play programmer (when burning 91 octane, big preformance and fuel boost), also have headers which haven't been installed yet

It's a big truck and if like mine has an annoyingly small fuel tank (approx 70L) so you wont pass too many gas stations, but with all the small bolt ons that you put on will give you minor mileage increases that pay out in the long run!

I have a CAI and I had it tuned by Lew....truck now has much more power and is better on fuel when driving normally (which is difficult).

I'm getting the same mileage (14-15 mpg) that I was getting with my 02 S10 ZR2. My mother's '10 Tahoe 5.3L is about the same.
