Z71 Off Road Vs Standard Hd Suspension

Recommended Posts

Having a hard time telling the difference between the standard HD suspension that comes with the trailering package and the Z71 suspension...besides the sticker on the rear quarter panel. I really do not need off-road features, I don't think, as we will use this new 2011 2500HD for pulling our 35' camper.

I am a novice on the suspension stuff so any advice from you who know is appreciated!!

thanks in advance

In addition to the stickers you also get some plastic skid plates, I think.

I assume you got the DMax. You're going to love how it pulls your camper.

z71= sticker, slightly different shocks and a skid plate the size of a book and bigger bump stops

Thanks for the info...the skid plate package by itself is $125.00, Z71 is $225.00...figure I might as well get the z71, but with out the stickers.

Not ordering the DMax...going with the gasser...can't spend the additional $8k for diesel

That's how I ended up going and the same reason why! I'm happy with my gasser though. If it weren't for all the DMax guys here always talking about how great their trucks are, I would have never known the difference!

:dunno::cheers:

Also, the skid plates are included in the Snow Plow Prep' Pkg.

Is the engine skidplate still alum' & the T/C skidplate, steel? That's what they're made of on my GMT800 ('04).

Some of our trucks have to work for a living. When I checked the 2011 3500HD Dmax is rated at 19,400# in gooseneck service while the equivalent gasser is rated about 8,800# if I remember right. With a gear change, maybe up around 13,500#, but still 3 tons less than the DMax can tow.

I never looked at 2500HD's (I need duals), but a friend said the differences were similar between the small block gasser and the DMax.

With a 35'r, it would be money well spent. Thats a lot of trailer for a 6.0 gas motor.

My thoughts exactly. Our trailer is a little shorter, a 34-footer, and weighs in at 14,400#. No way I could pull that with 6.0.

If this 6.0 can't pull 7,700 lbs, then I would stick with the Tundra if it had a better payload. The 2011's Sierra/Silverado gasser with 4.10 is rated to pull 13,000 on a ball hitch and 13,900 with a 5th wheel

By staying with the gasser and gearing it right your okay. The way I always think about it is I can buy a TON of gas for 8 to 10 grand.

For the six or seven times we go camping a year, the gasser will be fine and this 6.0 will handle it just fine. When we retire and travel all the time and get a big 'ole fifth wheel then we'll buy a diesel.
