Camper Mirrors

I know you can get the vertical camper mirrors that are heated and powered(mean the glass can be adjusted from in the cab), but does gm offer the ability for these mirrors to be power folding and power telescoping like this fords do?

I had power extending on my 2004 (2500) and Power folding on my 2005(1500). I think they had to many problems

so discontinued them. They are cool but not cool enough to get me into a ford.

According to my owners manual - on my 05 they should be power extending... In use they extend and retract only when I pull or push on them.

 

The mirrors adjust when I put the transmission in reverse - but they do not recover their original position as they are supposed to - when I put the transmission in drive. This is a real PIA.

 

Nonetheless - they are wonderful when extended for towing. A great idea, but poorly executed - my guess is that the problems are mostly due to making them as cheaply as possible - rather than attempting to make them the best on the market, or making them with the best possible components. Really a shame to have such a piece of junk on so expensive a truck.

I had the power camper extenders on my 03. They worked for about a year, I had the clutches replaced under warranty and they worked on and off until I sold it to my brother in 06. He says they do not work at all now. He has his wife toggle the switch from the inside while he pulls/pushes to move them. And you have curb assist? Should only be an option in the DIC for small power folders, that may explain why they don't adjust back to normal. Was there power folders on this truck originally? If so, you need to get the BCM flashed for the camper style, this will remove the curb assist option from the DIC.

I have the manual extendable camper mirrors on my 06. They are a mixed bag. Mine, and most people I know that have them, have a funky issue with the driver's side. It slowly extendeds itself over time. Not a big deal, about once a week I have to push it back in. Had it replaced under warranty, twice. Still did it. My grandfather's 06 is exactly the same. A lot better vision with the convex, and the vertical mirror configuration is much better, especially for taller people. In a nutshell: if you decide to go with the vertical, manual extenders, you will have a wider field of view, no extension issues (maybe one will do it on it's own slowly) but not as cosmetically appealing and streamlined as the power extenders. IMHO, Ford and Ram (the "flip" is the simplest invention) have better looking and a more functional mirror than GM. GM had a great idea on the power extender, Ford just perfected it plus made them fold too.

Extending and folding them is a manual operation. Easy. A girl can do it.
