P0449 Evap Solenoid Vent Circuit

I've got the code twice now. The first time it went away on its own. This time it is on and won't go away. I've searched and this seems to be a common problem with the gmt800's. Anybody else have this code on a GMT900?

Jeff, I had the same problem with my 04' 1500 Silverado LS. I had to order a new "vent valve solenoid" from Advance Auto Parts. The part is an AC-Delco # 214-2149 -"EGR Soleniod" for $22.95. Mine was on the fuel tank and shorted out from dirt and sand in the canister. If you search this forum you will find a tread that shows the old part-above and a new kit-$99.00 to $175.00- to relocate the vent closer to the front of the transmission. This is to prevent dirt from fouling up the solenoid again. A big pain to do. I will post pics when I do mine-hopefully this week. What I have been told is this code does not effect the MPG or performance of the truck. I say this since I just paid $100 to have mine diagnosed at the dealership prior to finding this forum-I could have bought a OBD code reader for this price. Just erase the code prior to repairing-disconnect both battery cables for 30 min. I hope this info helps, cause if I had seen this thread first I could have saved my self 6 months of aggrivation and $$$-new gas cap $35 and vacume hose $25. All a waste of money. Good Luck, Eric

change the solenoid, 5/8" heater hose for new hose, relocate the vent to a better location, thats how we do it with our GMT-900 1/2tons
