Looking To Buy New 2011 Hd 2500

Hello,

New to the site, so this is my first post. Wanted to get some input on the new 2500.

I currently have an 09 sierra 1500, with 5.3. I like the truck, and have had 1/2 tons all my life, but I saw a new 2500 today that took my breath away.

It has the 6.0 and six speed, and the usually specs, nothing fancy and 4x4.

Sticker was 40,806 and I still owe 25,880 on my truck.

After my trade in (upside down as usual), I got them to 41,000 at 0% for 6 yrs. Which makes my payment about 50 bucks more than what I have now.

So, what do you all think, go for the deal or keep trying. I tried for an 2010, but they told me they were hard to find at this point.

Thanks for your input.

Mike.

Do you need or want a 2500HD?

 It's alot more truck than your current truck... so the deal doesn't sound to bad.

I caught that... and I can't argue with "want". I'm too practical. I tend to buy vehicles by need rather than want. I could make good use of 2500HD pulling the camper, and still hesitate about driving one every day. I wouldn't get one "just to drive". Poor mpg, parking and ride. For heavy pulling/hauling/work... they're great. For lighter work or infrequent mid-weight towing (like me), it's hard to beat a well setup 1500.

Nope, dont need one at all, I almost never tow anything, I just love the way they look compared to the 1/2 ton. Plus thinking about the HD, everything is supposed to be Heavy Duty, which in my mind means it will last alot longer.

My friend has a 2001 HD with the 8.1 and that thing is still running like new, only thing worn out is the interior.

Only draw back for me is the increase in debt to get the new truck, especially since I dont really need it for anything other than to just have it.

Not necessarily going to last longer unloaded, but definitely will if worked hard (all else equal). The HD trucks have heavier components for sure, but they also weigh more and can be hard on themselves (stiff springs do not help joints). No reason to believe your 1500 won't go 300k miles with about the same maintenance as a 2500HD. As for debt, I avoid it for "wants" if at all possible.... so, that would be an easy decision for me.

well iam in the same boat as you, only diff is i am trading in my 08 grand prix gxp next spring for a 06-07 cummins.like you i don't need a 2500 but i do drive 3hrs a day to work and put close to 800kms a week so i am hoping the cummins will maybe last me 12-15years maybe longer.my feeling is you only live once so if you can afford it go with the 2500.

I did that once.

Bought and loved a 2006 Duramax LT-3 CC/SB from 2006 until a few months ago. Didn't drive it (too big) and sold it with 5,966 miles on the odo after owning it for four full years.

Hey, a nice young couple now owns an LBZ Duramax and they are presumably enjoying it and they got it for 50% of the price of a new one. Life is GREAT.

And I'm back in a Silverado 1500 CC/SB Z-71 LTZ with every frickin' bell and whistle and just loving being back in a half-ton truck. Given a few more months, I'll exceed the mileage I put on that big beast I didn't drive.

Loving the 2010 Silverado with the 5.3 liter engine with the 3.42 gear ratio linked to the new six-speed tranny. What a great truck.

Steve

PS. My advice is that if you can afford it and can buy it outright, you should have it. Go for it, man. ST
