dirtroadsetc Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 I have an early 2000 Chevy Tahoe Z71 with 5.7L I purchased the truck used and it's a great truck but the annoying thing is that when you try to start it with the lights off all that happens is the horn blows, turn the lights on and it starts. I was told this feature was dealer installed and would like to know how to fix it. Also, could this be causing my daytime running lights and factory fog lights to not function? The low and high beam lights work fine. Thank you
txab Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Usually if the DRLs don't work and/or the headlights are on during daylight, the ambient light sensor has failed or has been bypassed.
dirtroadsetc Posted October 16, 2010 Author Posted October 16, 2010 ok, got the issue with the lights having to be on to start fixed...turned out to be an aftermarket module. pretty sure that my model did not come with a light sensor because the drl are supposed to be on all the time. like I said, it's an early 2k model which means I had to buy the tech manuals for '98 year model because it's the 88 to 98 body style. I think what's happened is that the aftermarket module to disable the ignition probably burnt out the drl board. I've looked under the dash but am not quite sure where the board is located. if the board is burnt out would it effect the factory foglights? anything I should be looking for under the dash to find the drl board? 1 e2e2783d-a487-4fb9-a330-862a764dad2c1.03.01
Mckenzie Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 i thought the biggest motor they put in the tahoe's was a 5.3???
