Abs And Parking Break Lights

Recommended Posts

I have a 99 Sierra and once every couple of days my ABS and Parking Break lights will come on after driving about a half a mile, the breaks still work fine and if i stop and turn the truck off then on again, the lights do not come back on. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Your ABS module is probably on it's way out. When the ABS light is on it just means that the ABS won't activate when needed. The Brake light just tells you there's a problem with the braking system (i.e. the ABS). The brakes will work fine. Oh BTW, a new ABS module is about $800.

You can only have it redone by module masters if your EBCM is a Kelsey Hayes 325. If you have the Bosch model, it is non serviceable. You must buy a new one. Mine had this problem, and I fixed it for nothing. It looked like moisture had gotten inside the seal and corroded some of the contacts inside of it. I scraped away the corrosion, blew it out with an air nozzle, reinstalled it, and no more problems. Way better than the $600 the stealership was going to charge me.

naaaaa, this is what I did on both of my trucks........ Way cheaper than the dealer alternative.

Module Master

I was going to try that, but mine was rusted onto the fram rails, so no go for my '00.

Honestly, I hated ABS on the my GMT-800. It caused more harm than good. Other than the annoying ABS LED glowing in the dash, everything worked perfectly.

I have an '04 Denali, and today while I was on an hour drive, the abs light, the parking brake light and the traction control light all came on the instrument cluster. It also shut off, several times. Sometimes they stay on, and shut off etc. I was going to get an oil change, and my service guy cleaned the ABS sensors, and it did not fix the problem. When he tried to search the code, it wouldn't communicate with the module. Is this a definite sign that my module is on its way out? I would appreciate any input.
