Tailgate Noise

I have a 91 GMC C1500 Sierra SLX (w2 extra leafs on both sides) ext. cab., 2 dr., RWD, rebuilt 5.7L v8

 

I would like to know if anyone knows how to fix a banging tailgate ? Bangs loudly over big bumps.

I know it is the tailgate...because when I removed it from the truck the noise was gone.

Any ideas as to what I can do or buy to fix this problem ?

You can bend the outer (bed mounted) latch with a hammer on those. A little on each side to take up the slack (but not so much as to make the gate hard to close) should knock down the rattle.

Alright I will try that tomorrow. Thanks I seen only one video that showed a guy that fixed the problem, but he was cutting and welding spacers and everything. Was hoping there would have been some rubbers or weather stripping that would have made it easier lol

Tinker with bending that latch that the gate latches into on the bedside. All it takes is a little bit. Don't go crazy!
